What are Widgets?

Widgets are a great way to offer quick access to content and actions without having to open the corresponding feature of your PocketCampus app. They also help you promote content to users.

  • Users can customise what main menu entries they want to show as widget

  • Widgets can be placed anywhere in the main menu of the app, like any other entry

  • Widgets can also be displayed outside the app, on the user’s home screen (iOS and Android widgets)

  • A main menu entry can offer from zero to any number of widgets

  • A widget is always tied to a “classic“ main menu entry, and the name of that entry will be displayed in the widget bubble (see below)

In the video below, you can see how users can enable widgets. Of course, you can decide to have some widgets enabled by default for new users.

Widget Templates

PocketCampus apps currently offer 4 types of Widget templates. Based on these templates, custom widgets can be created to fulfil specific needs.

Some standard widgets are available out-of-the box for standard PocketCampus features. Those are listed in the next chapter.

All templates show a bubble in their top-left corner, which show the icon and name of feature to which this widget is attached to. For example, for the My Schedule feature in the classic main menu, if the user decides to show that feature as a widget, the widget bubble will show the text My Schedule in the bubble. This cannot be customised.

1. Image

The image template features a full screen picture, and optionally a title and subtitle.

The standard News widget is based on the image template.

2. List

The list template can list up to 4 items. Each item can have a small image (coloured dot in this example), a title, and optionally a subtitle.

The standard My Schedule widget is based on the list template.

3. Buttons

The buttons template features up to 4 buttons. The appearance of each button is customisable: color, icon, title. And each button can be configured to open a specific screen in the app.

The standard Breakdown Reporting widget is based on the buttons template.

4. Balance

The balance template shows a large decimal amount on the left, and up to 3 items on the right (title, subtitle, amount).

The standard My Card (Wallet) widget is based on the balance widget.

Standard Widgets

The following widgets are available out-of-the-box, without any additional development.

News Widget

The News widget uses the Image template and shows the latest news.

My Schedule Widget

The My Schedule widget uses the List template and shows the upcoming four schedule entries of the users.

My Card (Wallet) Widget

The Wallet widget uses the Balance template and shows the current wallet balance and the last three transactions.

Breakdown Reporting Widget

The Breakdown Reporting widget uses the Buttons template and provides shortcuts to report the four most common types of problems with facility.
